Parihaka

In class for religious education we are learning about Parihaka.
Parihaka is village in Taranaki. The chiefs of parihaka were Te Whiti o Rongomai and Tohu Kākahi and they both liked Jesus and trusted in him. The people of Parihaka believed in the chief because the albatross feather fell on Tohu's marae and also they believed in the albatross because it was the bird of mana [spiritual power]. One day they were getting attacked by the soliders. The soliders were putting them in jail because they wanted to take over their land. Instead fighting with the soldiers, the women made bread for the soliders and the children danced on the road.

I enjoyed reading the story of Parihaka because it teachs us not to fight on but to stay calm and happy.
I found it hard to Polyline the feather of the albatross.

The dragon slayer

In Room 1 we are learning to structure our writing.
I am going to
describe the setting
describe the characters
describe the problem
describe the resolution
edit for spelling and punctuation
Present my work to a peer for assessment.
I found it hard to edit and spelling and punctuation.
I found it easy to describe the setting.

In a time when dragons threatened mankind. Only one man was to stop them. On a stormy night Tarragon the dragon slayer trudged on the desert road on his battle horse , Black bull.

Finally after a long journey through the desert, Tarragon found the dragon's lair. He had his armour on and he had his long sharp sword and shield with him. He woke the dragon up and they started fighting. After a few hours of fighting Tarragon stabs the sword in the dragon’s stomach and the dragon slowly dies.

After fighting the dragon ,Tarragon was so tired. He headed back to his horse and as he was about to go back, he found a little baby dragon. At first he looked at it and ignored it. But after he felt sorry for it. So he threw away his shield and put him on the horse. Then two more came and sweetly at him. He sighed for a moment and loaded them up too. But there was no more space for him ,so he just walked along.

Recounts

Today my learning intention was to describe
In my success criteria I am going to
* use some long and some short sentences.
* use adjectives and adverbs.
* use juicy verbs to start a sentence.
* use a simile or a metaphor.
* keep to one main idea in each paragraph.
* edit for spelling and punctuation.

I found it hard to use a metaphor or a simile because I didn't understand what it meant.I found it easy to keep to one main idea in each paragraph.

" Whoo hoo! " I yelled as I rode on a roller coaster with my Dad. We were at a giant place in Palmerston North. It was amazing because there were heaps of bouncy castles and food to eat like candy floss ,candy, giant lollipops and heaps more.

After we drove to the playground and as I was about to touch the bark with my shoes. I hit the wood and fell down on the ground with a bleeding knee. So we had to sit down with a tissue over my knee and wait till it stopped bleeding. It was extremely painful so Dad and I went back at the motel.

Fizzy drinks

Is fizzy drinks healthy or not ?
I firmly believe that fizzy drinks are harmful to our
body. In fizzy drinks, there is a lot of sugar which is not good for our health. Some people may not like it or probably they are allergic to it. You can’t actually see the sugar because it’s gone all down to the bottom and dissolved in water.

In the coke, there are artificial colours and preservatives which can cause rashes on the face and make you feel not so good in your body. You can drink fizzy drinks once or twice in a month. But if you drink too much, you will start getting sick. If you don’t want to get sick, then avoid drinking fizzy drinks such as coke, sparkling, sprite etc.

Adults can drink fizzy drinks because they are strong, healthy and have developed their immune system. Children are still developing their immune system, so they should be careful when they drink fizzy drinks. To make our body healthy and strong we should prefer to drink water and fruit smoothies.

In conclusion, I will say water is healthier than fizzy drinks.

Speeches

This week we presented our speeches. I felt nervous when I got in front of the class and also I was shaking.

We had to use a clear voice, stand still, speak loudly, go at are own pace, look up at the audience, use expression and be confident.

Our speeches needed to include a rhetorical question and be persuasive.

My speech was on climate change. You can see this on my previous post.

climate change

What is climate change and how does it affect us?
Climate change is when the climate is changing  into hail ,lightning ,thunder and other stuff. Global warming is when the world is getting warmer. In the Amazon rainforest their is 20% of the earth’s oxygen. There are many types of species in the Amazon rainforest , such as , tuccans , sloths, tarantulas and much more. The animals habitats are getting destroyed because of the fires.

The glaciers are melting because the world is getting hotter. This also causes the sea levels to rise and flood the small islands. The sea is also getting warmer that causes the sea animals species to die. But if they die the people could not go fishing and the people who eat fish , they will not be able to eat fish because there will not be any sea animals.

Fossil fuels can be used for petrol, diesel and gas. Fossil fuels are also realizing to much hot air. It is realizing incredible amount of carbon dioxide.

That's why I think climate change should be stopped.

Should caged chickens be banned

Would you like to spend your whole life in a chicken cage?
I firmly believe that caged chickens should be banned. One main point that caged chickens should not be kept in cages is because they get to much squished. There are about 45,000 chickens in each shed. They only have about A4 size space. There are about 82 percent of caged chickens in New Zealand.

Another point that caged chickens should not be in cages is because then they can not scratch their food or they can not stretch their legs. They will get fatty liver disease and they will have a weak bone. The caged chickens don’t get any sunlight or wind. Caged eggs are only for thirty cents each , but the free range eggs are fifty to eighty cents.

Another point that caged chickens should not be in cages is because when they get angry they peck other chickens. But if they get super angry the chickens even kill the other chickens and eat them up.

Winter

We are learning to describe. I found it tricky to make my sentences make sense.

Outside, the beautiful mountains sat still. The freezing air came straight to my face making it cold and red. Branches broke falling onto the ground and made crunchy noises when you stepped on them. Snow fell right to my face and hands making them cold and wet. The clouds were so white that you could barely even see them. The grass was stiff, damp and cold.

My dream car

My dream is to get a Ferrari car. It will be auto two seater car and the colour of this car will be red. It will have a back camera and a front camera. The colour on the stirring wheel, will be red with black stripes. In the middle, there will be the Ferrari logo. The car will unlock and lock with my fingerprint. To open the boot, there will be a voice lock, so if i say "open the boot", the boot will open and if i say "lock the boot", the boot will immediately lock. The colour of the rims of this car, will be bright black and red. The windows will look black from the outside, but if you sit down in the car and look outside, the windows won't look black from inside. The doors of the car will automatically go up and down. The engine will be super heavy and super fast, so that the car can go at three hundred speed. The cost of this car will be $ 1.2million. First, i will have to study so i can get a good job. When i will get a good job, i will save money and get all the knowledge about the Ferrari car and then i will buy it.In the future, when i want to go on a long trip, i will just turn the gear to auto, so the car will keep driving by itself. Then all i will have to do is just lay down and watch youtube.

Gummy worms

Gummy worms

We are learning how to make Gummy worms. I enjoyed doing the experiment but it was hard to write about it.

Have you ever wondered what makes a polymer?
A polymer is more than a monomer. First mix water (2 cups) into a clear bowl then put 1 tsp of calcium chloride in. Then get a pipette and suck up the sodium alginate (from seaweed). Then squeeze the pipette into the bowl to make gummy worms.

Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa

We have been learning about saints this year.
I did Mother Teresa because she helped a lot people and she also healed people.
It was pretty hard searching up her facts but it was easy to write them.

Mother Teresa was born in August 26 1910. Mother Teresa's birth name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. Mother Teresa lived in India for 18 years and she was a citizen of India. In 1950, Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation that had over 4,500 nuns and was active in 133 countries in 2012. Teresa died in 1997 at age 87. Mother Teresa was born in Uskub, Skopje, the capital city of the Republic of Macedonia. She was canonized as Saint Teresa of Calcutta. After several years of being sick with heart, lung and kidney problems, Mother Teresa died on September 5, 1997, at the age of 87 because she got heart failure.
